About the Job
Do you have a strong desire to develop and manage state-of-the-art observability solutions that provide engineers with instantaneous insights into intricate cloud-based systems?
Your main responsibility as a Software Engineer on the Platform Observability Team will be to use observability tooling-based solutions to assist drive choices and enhance outcomes across our cloud-based SaaS platform.
As a member of cross-functional teams, you will collaborate closely to provide developer-friendly observability solutions that enable infrastructure and product engineers to design and deploy software with a clear understanding of its metrics, logs, traces, and performance profiles.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
- Create, put into use, and manage observability tools and infrastructure with an emphasis on metrics, logging, tracing, and ongoing profiling.
- Work together with software developers to provide thorough instrumentation that will collect pertinent telemetry data for observability needs.
- Construct and manage Kubernetes-based large-scale observability workloads.
- Make use of open-source standards like OpenTelemetry to create solutions that are both scalable and compatible.
- Create extensive data pipelines to manage high cardinality data and provide engineers with interactive debugging tools.
- Make it possible for engineers to comprehend the behavior of distributed systems and enable efficient telemetry correlation.
- Develop tools for observability that are both inexpensive and user-friendly for engineers. These tools will enable real-time root-cause analysis and shorten the mean time to resolution (MTTR) of incidents.
- Participate in the features and functionalities of the Observability platform’s development to continuously improve user experience and guarantee self-service capabilities for other teams.
- Work together with the OpenTelemetry community and make contributions to open-source projects in order to encourage observability solutions to be adopted more widely.
Qualifications
Required:
- 2 or more years of expertise using a modern programming language to write production-grade code.
- A track record of successfully developing, deploying, and managing observability solutions—ideally in a cloud-based SaaS setting.
- Ability to program in languages like Java, Go, or Python.
- Knowledge of open-source observability standards and technologies, such as OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Prometheus, and others.
- Proficiency with the principles, best practices, and technologies of IaC, Kubernetes, and AWS.
- Take part in rotating team on-call duties.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, initiative, and capacity to cooperate in a fast-paced team setting.
Desired:
- Knowledge of telemetry correlation and context transmission to facilitate efficient distributed system monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with log management, metric aggregation, and distributed tracing methods.
- Knowledge of creating data pipelines.
- Knowledge of the difficulties associated with high cardinality data and techniques for managing complicated telemetry data.
- Adeptness in utilizing cost observability tools and workflows to optimize cloud infrastructure and computing expenses.
