TCS Sends Transfer Notices to Employees after 5 Days Work From Office Rule

TCS Sends Transfer Notices According to the National Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has sent relocation notices to over 2,000 employees at various locations, instructing them to join assigned locations within 15 days. This move comes a month after TCS made it mandatory for employees to work from the office for five days a week, based on the company’s applicable policies, to reimburse travel and accommodation expenses.

TCS Sends Transfer Notices : Asks employees to relocate within 15 days

Some emails observed by Moneycontrol indicated that employees were given notice of approximately two weeks to move to designated locations. TCS is being accused of compelling the transfer of employees to new locations without adequate information or consultation, causing significant hardships for them and their families. The IT union has filed a formal complaint against TCS for unethical relocation practices with the Ministry of Labor and Employment.

Harpreet Singh Saluja, President of NITES, mentioned that the company is ignoring the financial difficulties, family disruptions, stress, and anxiety caused to employees due to these forced transfers. They have urged the ministry to investigate TCS’s actions and take appropriate measures to protect IT employees from such unethical practices.

Some employees have agreed and already moved to predetermined locations, but approximately 150-200 employees are still hesitant and are discussing their concerns with the company’s HR officials. However, failing to comply with the two-week timeframe, their emails were dismissed without any notice, threatening them with loss of pay and job if they don’t report to the specified locations immediately.

Saluja highlighted that some employees who relocated to Mumbai for ‘critical work’ almost a month ago are still on the bench, not assigned any work yet.

5 days Work From Office Rule of TCS

This notice comes over a month after TCS instructed certain teams via email to work from the office for at least five days a week starting from October 1, 2023. While a three-day office work expectation for hybrid work transitions would still be ideal per public consensus, sources from Moneycontrol shared that managers in different departments are pushing for a five-day office presence per week. However, the company plans to maintain flexibility/hybrid policies and will make exceptions where necessary.
